Connection to Nature (Outside and Within)
Connection to Nature “Outside” is something we subconsciously seek. According to philosophers and scientists as Erich Fromm and Edward O. Wilson, humans are attracted to all that is alive and vital. There is an instinctive bond between us and other living systems.
How do we know?
Because of the attractions and positive feelings that people have in the presence of living creatures and natural habitats. In a way, there is no need for further explanation to accept the fact that spending time in nature is good for us.
Surfers and Freedivers, just know it. Through experience they have discovered how spending time in Nature makes life better, giving it meaning, and puts smiles on peoples´ faces.
Connection to Nature “Within” refers to our ability to pay attention to what is going on in our minds and bodies. Realizing how sensations, thoughts and emotions affect our decisions and actions. How our perception of the moment has an impact on how we decide to engage in it. We can also refer to this as “Self Awareness” or “Mindfulness”, which are key for better living. And in the case of overcoming challenges in Nature: Vital.
In addition, we should look at our bodies the same way we look at the Ocean, Forests, etc. After all, our bodies consist of a community of cells / organisms and as such need to be respected and looked after; assuring an inner balance is kept.
In Survival Apnea, we are proud to say that our courses have been created and are delivered by individuals that live what they preach. And that the knowledge shared will not only provide participants with tools to perform better, but also inspire others to learn what the Freediving and Surfing communities have discovered by spending time in the Ocean.
Through breathing, one can influence his thoughts and focus. Through breathing, one can influence his heart rate. Through breathing, one can change his physiology. Yet, very few practice breath control and breath awareness.
At first, results will be hard to grasp, but over time, once an individual becomes skillful at it, a whole new world in physical performance and self control will appear.
All Survival Apnea courses and programs will provide opportunities to improve and learn breathing skills. Patience and perseverance on your side and results will express.

Mental strength, willpower, grit, resolve…however you want to call it…in the end it’s a way of thinking, an attitude, a way of behaving, a habit and like any habit, it can be forged and nurtured, be made stronger.
For anything to strengthen, it needs to be challenged, exposed to some form of difficulty once in a while.
Survival Apnea courses and programs offer opportunities to strengthen your mind, by exposing you to intense situations inspired on what surfers and freedivers go through when training or playing in the Ocean.
Some of the most effective exercises can be practiced in the comfort of your bed and only take a few minutes of your day.

When it comes to physical preparation, our approach is we want it to be a compliment of something bigger and more meaningful than just doing exercises and/or a training session.
Survival Apnea´s “Physical Preparation” programs are targeted towards “Watermen/woman” who want to be fit for the Ocean.
Important to clarify that being fit is not about looks, burnt calories, body composition indexes, heart beats per minute, etc. Being fit is about fitting somewhere in nature.
Being fit for the Ocean means you can effectively occupy a spot in it: Be strong, resilient and skillful enough to perform, while reducing chances of getting injured.
